Reviewer Qualifications

Reviewers are selected based on their scholarly expertise, publication record, and review competence. Ideal candidates should:

  • Possess a PhD or equivalent research experience in a relevant field.
  • Have a demonstrable publication record in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Maintain no conflicts of interest with authors (including recent collaboration, institutional ties, or personal relationships).
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in their own research and reviewing practices.

Manuscript Evaluation Guidelines

Reviewers are expected to conduct a comprehensive evaluation based on the following key dimensions:

  • Scope & Originality: Assess whether the manuscript aligns with the target journal’s scope and contributes novel findings, concepts, or a meaningful synthesis of existing knowledge.
  • Methodology & Analysis: Examine the soundness of the study design, the clarity and reproducibility of the methods, and the rigor of data analysis and statistical application.
  • Results & Interpretation: Evaluate whether results are clearly and accurately presented, figures/tables effectively support the findings, and conclusions are well-supported with limitations acknowledged.
  • Presentation & Clarity: Judge the logical structure, writing quality, language clarity, and appropriateness of the title, abstract, and references.
  • Ethics & Compliance: Verify adherence to relevant ethical standards (e.g., for human/animal research) and data sharing guidelines, including the inclusion of required statements.

Core Ethical Responsibilities

Reviewers are entrusted to uphold the integrity of the scholarly record and must adhere to COPE guidelines

  • Confidentiality: All submitted manuscripts are confidential. Do not share, discuss, or use them, including via AI tools.
  • Objectivity & Constructiveness: Provide unbiased, evidence-based, and courteous feedback aimed at improving the work.
  • Conflict of Interest: Disclose or decline if any competing interests exist (e.g., collaboration within past 3 years, financial ties).
  • Ethical Vigilance: Alert the editor to any suspected misconduct (plagiarism, data manipulation, etc.); do not investigate.
  • Timeliness: Submit your review by the deadline or request an extension promptly.

Formulating Report

Structure your report with a brief summary followed by major and minor comments. Be specific by referencing page/line numbers.

Your overall recommendation should be one of the following:

  • Accept: Outstanding and publication-ready.
  • Minor Revisions: Strong manuscript needing specific, straightforward corrections.
  • Major Revisions: Valuable work requiring substantial revision; must be re-reviewed.
  • Reject: Fundamental flaws present (e.g., lack of novelty, fatal methodological errors). Provide clear, constructive reasoning.
